Shaws @ Katong Post

A beautiful heritage building it shares with the Katong Post Office — and behind it, a playground most passers-by never know is there.

An enchanting little play house

Katong Post sits inside a heritage building that also houses the Katong Post Office, right next door to the Canadian International School. From the street it looks small — which is rather the point.

Hidden behind it is a proper playground for sports and enrichment activities, with an outdoor play area shaded by a banyan tree. The children spend a lot of time out there, and just as much time out in the neighbourhood: the surrounding Katong and Joo Chiat streets make for excellent field trips.

A team of seventeen educators works across the levels here, running the same ShawsPlay curriculum as every other campus.

Deborah Shaw

Principal — Katong Post Office & Tanjong Katong (Boscombe Road)

Deborah has more than twenty years of leadership experience at Shaws, and now leads both Katong campuses as one connected community across two sites.

She brings a deep working knowledge of the ShawsPlay curriculum and a firm belief in family partnership. Her focus is the whole child — social, emotional, physical and academic — developed through hands-on experience and outdoor play rather than instruction.

“Children learn best when they feel confident, supported and actively engaged in the world around them. We focus on caring relationships, curiosity through play, and helping children develop independence and resilience.”

— Deborah Shaw, Principal

What parents here say

The big draw was the bilingual programme, with an English- and Chinese-speaking teacher in every class. Everything Joseph has learned has flowed naturally from having fun.
Katie & JamesParents of Joseph
As a former teacher I had precise requirements: warm, cosy and safe. Shaws ticked all of them, and all three of our children love it.
Nikki & AliParents of Faya, Noah and Elias
We love that the school focuses on more than studying — sports, outdoor play, excursions and themed events where kids dress up and do activities with parents.
