Parent Testimonials for Shaws Serangoon Preschools

Braddell Heights

I like how Shaws has a very homely feel. The school compound is in a house with an inviting garden and space for kids to run and play in the fresh air. The staff are also friendly, nurturing and invested in my children. Curriculum-wise, I like how there is a right balance between academia and sports, and encouraging the kids without mollycoddling them. My children enjoy the learning games, sports and cookery classes. They have grown close to their classmates and I feel that that can only happen in an environment which they feel happy and safe in.

We were looking for a play based school with a friendly atmosphere and when we looked at Shaws at Braddell we noticed how happy the children seemed straight away. Since attending the school, both my children have developed their characters in different ways. One of my sons has really come out of his shell and now actually enjoys presenting in front of the class which we would never have thought possible before. Our other son is more active and able to concentrate better now. The variety of activities provided at school seem to have sparked his interest. He is now eager to learn and concentrate in a way he was not before.

My firstborn was very shy and needed a lot of coaxing and encouragement before she was willing to try anything. After joining Shaws Preschool, I noticed a positive change in my daughter’s confidence and willingness to open up and socialise with other kids. I was pleased with the principal and teachers’ efforts to make my child feel welcomed and at ease.

Lorong Chuan

We got a really positive vibe when we visited the school. The Lorong Chuan branch had just opened when we visited and only had a handful of students. But it already felt like a genuinely happy place, with kind, enthusiastic and warm teachers. It also ticked all the boxes for us, with a play-based curriculum, equal emphasis on English and Mandarin, good class sizes and lots of outdoor time. We are thrilled by how much Ellie loves going to school – she’s always upset when she’s ill and has to stay home. She loves her friends, her teachers and her coaches, and always runs off to play as soon as we get to school. She particularly looks forward to water play, sports and after-school swimming lessons.

A few of our friends send their kids to Shaws and have only good things to say about this brand. We love that Shaws encourage outdoor play; kids in Singapore spend too much time being cooped up at home! Little League is also a big plus for us because Adam gets a gentle introduction to different forms of sports. Adam also looks forward to water play every Wednesday and show and tell every Monday. Lastly, the teachers are amazing! They are very approachable and know Adam very well. I am awed by how much energy they have.

We were looking for a preschool with a good balance of structured learning along with play. As Jed is an active kid, lots of outdoor time and space to explore and run about were important to our search criteria.

Shaws Loring Chuan fit the bill with their emphasis on teaching through play and encouraging their students to be brave, adventurous and courageous. We particularly appreciate the effort Shaws puts, into conducting lessons inside and outside the classroom — allowing preschool students the right mix of hands-on practical learning as well as indoor theoretical learning.

Parent Testimonials for Shaws East Coast Preschools

Katong Post

A school plays a vital role for children and we were very particular about providing the best for our little boy. Few of our colleagues and friends often recommended Shaws and we were very eager to find out more about the school. We loved it when we came for the open house. Friendly teachers, wonderful hospitality, extra care, low teacher to student ratio, excellent environment and the outdoor playground were some things that impressed us. We were happy with the curriculum that Shaws had as well. It was comprehensive as it covered everything from language to counting, science and even sports. My son enjoys coming to school. There hasn’t been a single day that he has cried and hesitated from going to school.

We love that the school focuses on aspects beyond studying such as sports and outdoor play. We like the different excursions to interesting places and also the themed events where kids get to dress up and do fun activities with parents and friends. Our favourite was Letterland Day where they dressed up as their favourite Letterland Character and also the Zumba Session for Mother’s Day.

As a former teacher, I had precise requirements in a preschool- a warm, cosy and safe environment. And Shaws ticked all these boxes and more. The teachers won us over with their friendly personalities and genuinely cared about the children in their care. All three children LOVE Shaws and have made so many friends from countries far and wide.

Our criteria for a preschool is that our son, Joseph, needed to have fun and enjoy school and Shaws’ learning through play philosophy immediately appealed. The other big draw was the excellent bilingual programme with an English- and Chinese-speaking teacher in every class. Every day has just been about having fun, and everything he has learned has flowed naturally from that. The delight on Joseph’s face when we drop him off at school is a major highlight for us. There’s not been one day when he hasn’t been eager to get to school!

Tanjong Katong

We liked that Shaws is truly a play based preschool. The small size of the Katong campus made it feel more intimate and this allowed us to get to know most of the teachers and children. We really like the sense of community that has been built at Shaws. We have a lovely community of staff, children and parents at Shaws and we are very grateful for them being present in our parenting journey. Thomas enjoys being with the teachers and learning from them because they are so caring and nurturing.

We visited quite a few local and international childcare centers before we found the Shaws Tanjong Katong campus. Once we did, however, we knew our search was over. While other schools were extremely concerned about sharing with us their rates and “unbeatable syllabus” above all,  Shaws@Katong was focused on creating a fun and creative learning environment for the kids. And we could tell they were succeeding by all the happy little faces playing around or proudly waving at us from their stations. No queue of silent C3POs following instructions like we observed in other places.

There are so many reasons why we are really happy with Shaws at Tanjong Katong. It is a small school with lots of personal interaction, so everyone knows everyone. The flexible bilingual programs make it easy to accommodate kids as they start their journey into schooling. Our girls absolutely love their teachers who are truly passionate and caring. Both are very excited to go to school every day to play with their friends. The project-based learning approach is lots of fun and there’s also plenty of time for outdoor play, sports and games. And last but not least, our little ladies always smile at drop-off and pick-up.

We chose the Katong campus because it felt homely. Our kids love the teachers. They talk about them at home and can’t wait to share exciting news with them. My eldest has even said that his teacher is his best friend! One major highlight for us has been Shaws’ sports and outdoors focus. The kids get plenty of time to play outside, and Shaws does Little League all year round.  We value this as it gets the kids moving and interested in a massive range of sports.

Shaws radiates infectious energy that is filled with light and positivity. We love the human interaction between the Teachers and our children. The warmth doesn’t just revolve around the children but around each family member. We love its well-balanced and creative approach to foundational education. Our kids are especially drawn to the warm, dedicated teachers who always go the extra mile.

We love that Shaws has a play-based approach – that is perfect for our little ball of energy! Harrison loves Messy Play Day every Wednesday and the weekly Sports Day. He also loves his new friends. He’s too young to talk properly, but he comes home and says their names excitedly.

We were looking for a play-based school with a solid bilingual programme, and we liked the focus Shaws puts on sport from a very young age. But most importantly, we loved the school’s incredibly friendly and nurturing environment. And we also noticed Allie’s rapid development in vocabulary after she started at Shaws.

Mountbatten

We chose Shaws because their play based learning approach was inline with how we wanted to expose our child to education at an early age. We love that our son gets to do things like the evening play at the mud kitchen, something that we ourselves enjoyed as kids. Kobe loves Tuesdays because of Shaws Little League!

Children learn through play. Hands on education. The school focuses on the children’s interests. Bilingual school. Larger than average outside open play area. Multicultural environment. These are some of the reasons why we chose Shaws to be the preschool for our children. Our daughters love the variety of activities that the school has. Especially the show and tell and dress ups.

We love the school’s belief that life is an educational adventure, beyond just text books, and children learn more outdoors than indoors. We also really like the school campus – the beautiful quirky building and the playground. The teachers that Qaveri has had through the years have been outstanding. They’ve been equal partners with us (the parents) in developing our child into this well-rounded young lady she is today. We are also so pleased with the parents’ community that has formed over the years.

The school was recommended to us by multiple parents when we moved to Singapore 2 years ago. The happy environment left deep impressions on our minds when we first visited the school. The teachers were friendly and lively! The way we saw them interacting with the young kids felt just right. We placed ourselves on the waitlist and were thrilled when we did get the slot! The school’s focus on character based alphabets, the reputation of being the first play based preschool in Singapore and the actual attention to sports outside the classroom clinched it for us. Our child has been going there for close to a year now and we’re pleased to see his growth and his happy face while going in! They love the show and tell sessions and sports time.

Shaws is perfect for active kids like Elliot. He loves the sensory and messy play that is always on the agenda at Shaws. It is ideal for active kids, lots of sports and play on the timetable, which was important to us alongside the developmental and academic learning. It’s fantastic to see Elliot drawing and painting daily, as well as participating in dress-up days every few weeks. Under the gentle guidance of his teachers, we see how his confidence grows. His fine motor and language skills have also developed rapidly in the space of a few months at Shaws.

The curriculum at Shaws is very thoughtfully created; my child is learning so many new things and exposed to all kinds of information, putting him in good stead as he heads to higher learning in the future.

We picked Shaws due to positive feedback from parents on different Shaws campuses. We were convinced after our school tour, where we got a glimpse of the day-to-day activities. Our son settled in seamlessly. He enjoyed interacting with other kids in no time, and he especially loved the outdoor playtime, where he got to run around and do sports. Beyond that, we also find that he is becoming more curious and keen to explore, thanks to the many exciting activities he does in class.
