Shaws @ Katong Post is located in a beautiful heritage building, which also houses the Katong Post Office and is just next door to the Canadian International School.

Hidden behind this enchanting little building is a wonderful playground for sports and enrichment activities. Our children love to explore our outdoor play area in the shade of the Banyan tree and join us on field trips in the colourful neighbourhood. Together with a team of 17 caring and experienced preschool educators, our kindergarten is headed by Principal Geraldine Merican Choo.

Deborah Shaw

Principal — Shaws Preschool at Katong (Boscombe Road) & Katong Post Office

Over 20 years of experience in play-based early childhood education leadership

Deborah Shaw is a highly experienced and trusted early childhood educator with more than 20 years of leadership experience at Shaws Preschool. She currently leads both Shaws Preschool at Katong (Boscombe Road) and Shaws Preschool at Katong Post Office as one connected community across two campuses.

Working closely with children, families, and teachers, Deborah is passionate about creating warm, engaging, and well-supported learning environments where children can thrive. Having spent over two decades leading Shaws campuses, she brings a deep understanding of the ShawsPlay curriculum, play-based learning, and the importance of strong family partnerships. Her approach focuses on nurturing the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and academically—by building confidence, resilience, and independence through meaningful hands-on experiences and outdoor play.

“I believe every child is unique and full of potential. Children learn best when they feel confident, supported and actively engaged in the world around them. At Shaws, we focus on creating caring relationships, encouraging curiosity through play, and helping children develop independence, resilience and a strong foundation for future learning.”

Deborah believes learning happens constantly through movement, exploration, relationships and everyday experiences. She values each child’s individual strengths, interests and developmental journey, while creating a positive and caring environment where children feel secure, supported and motivated to learn.

We like the different excursions to interesting places and also the themed events where kids get to dress up and do fun activities with parents and friends. Our favourite was Letterland Day where they dressed up as their favourite Letterland Character and also the Zumba Session for Mother’s Day.

Our criteria for a preschool is that our son, Joseph, needed to have fun and enjoy school and Shaws’ learning through play philosophy immediately appealed. The other big draw was the excellent bilingual programme with an English- and Chinese-speaking teacher in every class.
